Nancy

New York, NY

“He has a great future here, which is why I wanted to bring him to the U.S. There is less worry here in America, I feel good when he is happy and fulfilled. My husband died, so my entire future is about my son and his well-being.”

Nancy’s story:

I came here from Taiwan in 1986. I came because my family opened a restaurant here in Brooklyn. To this day it is still open. I’m glad I came here from Taiwan. It is more complicated there. Here my son has a good life. He is a very good photographer as well. Look at this photo of my son and his girlfriend, he is not married yet but she is very pretty, right? She’s not Taiwanese, but that’s okay. My son is very smart and he has a very good career. He told me that his girlfriend is very smart too, and I told him how important that is. He has a great future here, which is why I wanted to bring him to the U.S. There is less worry here in America, and I feel good when he is happy and fulfilled. When he is not doing well, it hurts me, because everything I do is for my son. My husband died, so my entire future is about my son and his well-being.
