Cassidy’s story:
My great-grandmother’s husband died when my grandma was born. So she was taken in by some relatives who owned a Swedish bakery in Brooklyn, New York. My grandmother and great-grandmother worked in this bakery, so we have a lot of recipes that have been passed down. We have these Christmas cookies called pepparkaka, which means pepper cake, it’s a ginger snap. St. Patrick’s Day is a big holiday in my family too.
I definitely want to pass baking down to my children. My mother called her grandmother “mormor,” which means grandmother in Swedish. She always says that I remind her of her grandmother. My dad on the other hand is all about the Irish pride. They were big into the Irish names with me and my brothers.
